What are the advantages of using a rebound tonometer, such as the Tono-Vera Tonometer?

Rebound tonometry is a method used to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) without the need for anesthetic drops. A small, lightweight probe is gently propelled toward the cornea, making brief contact with the eye and then rebounding back. The device measures the deceleration of the probe during this rebound which correlates with the IOP. There is minimal risk of cross-contamination because of the single-use probes.

How do I load the probe?

Remove the Ocu-Dot Probe tube cap, insert the probe into the chamber, and rotate until it slides into place.

How should I position the Tono-Vera Tonometer when taking a reading?

Hold Tono-Vera Tonometer so the Ocu-Dot Probe and Canthus Marks are perpendicular to the eye. Adjust the Flexi-Soft™ Forehead Rest to assist with positioning by rotating the Flexi-Soft Forehead Rest Adjustment Wheel. Using the ActiView Positioning System, align the probe to the eye such that the  probe angle is ±15º from level and the probe tip  is approximately 6 mm (±1.5mm) from corneal apex. Tono-Vera Tonometer will automatically measure when properly aligned.

Tono-Vera can be rotated a full 360º around the axis of the Ocu-Dot Probe, as long as the probe is kept parallel to the ground, within the ±15º probe angle range.

Can I use Tono-Vera Tonometer to measure IOP in a supine position?

Since Tono-Vera Tonometer can be rotated a full 360º around the axis of the Ocu-Dot Probe (as long as the probe is kept parallel to the ground, within the ±15º probe angle range) reclined or recumbent patients can be measured by positioning their head to the side.

The Tono-Vera Tonometer ActiView Positioning System guides the user to the correct alignment using visual indicators. When proper distance of 6mm (±1.5mm), centration, and probe angle (±15º) are achieved, the device automatically takes the measurement.
